Meet the Neu Crew! Each month you'll get to know one of our valued NeuAnalytics employees. This month, we're chatting with Kayla Tomosieski, a Data Operations team member who loves to flex her creative muscles.
Name: Kayla Tomosieski
How long have you worked at NeuAnalytics?
I have been with Neu for a little over 3 years now 👾 Started in April of 2019
What is your current position/title and what does that mean?
My current position with Neu is ETL Developer on the Data Operations team. At a high level, my role is to Extract, Transfer, and Load data (ETL). I received a promotion from a Junior Developer to an ETL Developer in August of 2021. And in the world of developers, that is a huge milestone – especially for a woman in a male-dominated field.
What is the best part about working for NeuAnalytics?
The best part of working for NeuAnalytics to me is the environment; Neu encourages constant growth, teamwork and camaraderie, as well as health and wellbeing. I have worked in places that are far more toxic than Chernobyl, and when I was looking for a new company to work for, I wanted to make sure it was somewhere that I could put down roots and grow both professionally and personally.
What do you like to do while you’re not at work?
When I am not at work for Neu, I enjoy working around my home/yard, gaming online, and coaching Color Guard at a local high school in the Marching Band (#BandGeekForLife #ColorGuard).
What is your favorite type(s) of food?
Dude…. I. Love. Food. Shopping for it, looking for recipes and idea, prepping it, cooking it, eating it, etc. I have a bomb recipe for mahi-mahi fish cakes and slaw that I love to make, tacos are always a fav, and there is never enough cheesecake in this world. Carbs (unfortunately) are my favorite.
What is your favorite type of music?
That is hard. I listen to a lot of genres. Currently I am really enjoying cross-genre remixes (Rock and rap, pop and folk, trap beats and shanties).
If you could have any job other than your current job, what would you do?
I would be an event planner!!! I love entertaining people. Be it a holiday meal, board game night, barbecue in the back yard, intimate patio fire, special occasion, or anything else. From putting decorations together for a specific theme and menu planning to invites and event execution, I live it! God gave me a gift for it.
Tell me about something you’re passionate about – or a fun/unique hobby or pastime you have.
I take great pleasure in exercising my creative muscles: choreographing guard routines, learning traditional Arabic belly dancing, crafting home décor, practicing calligraphy, crocheting baby blankets, working on other arts and crafts, painting, etc.
Is there any charity you feel passionate about that you’d like us to link to?
I currently support Peace Partnership Counseling. They provide counseling to anyone who needs it in the KC area and some aboard. They are a non-profit and run 100% on donations.
Peace Partnership is not a charity, but it is donation-funded mental health counseling. And mental health is an incredibly important topic to me. I struggle with my mental health and have been seen by one of the counselors at PP for about 3 years now – and what a difference it has made!
Otherwise, I seek to support small local businesses anytime it is possible!! I love buying honey from hobby bee keepers in KC, buying coffee beans local from little local stores, and supporting dad-owned ice cream shops, just to name a few.
